The fourth in a series of five golden prints from the London Views series. The last one will be called 'Houses of Bastards'. Cnut (prounounced "k'nute") was the king of England between 1016 and 1035. According to an 11th century Norman poem he demonstrated his inability to control the tides to his courtiers at Westminster, on the Thames, to illustrate the futility of earthly endeavour. Westminster, then known as Thorney Island, was the original crossing place of the river. For further ponderings, please refer to 'Thames: Sacred River' by Peter Ackroyd.
